Instructional Design

“If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll never get there.”

Clearly defined business goals (along with success criteria) are the foundation of effective instructional design. When courses are tailored to specific business goals, there is measurable impact. Did we meet our goal or didn’t we? It’s not simply a matter of what course information to include – what people should know. Instructional design addresses what people need to do – the actions and behaviours required to operationalize your goals.

That’s instructional design in a nutshell – a thoughtful analysis of an organization’s learning goals and a deliberate proposal of how best to meet them, through instruction. A well-designed course provides realistic challenges (relevant scenarios to apply concepts and receive feedback) that serve as opportunities to reinforce desired behaviours. The fun part is figuring out how to make the experience enjoyable a.k.a., less learning-like. We live for this stuff. Whether you’d like some guidance to get started or you’re looking to outsource the complete design and development of a customized eLearning solution, we can help.
